First aid training: ABCD and 4Bs concepts

It is without a doubt that preserving human life, preventing further damage and promoting fast recovery are the common goals of a perfect first aid training. The training is meant for teaching life saving methods and techniques to first aid trainees so that they can give pre-medical help to the people who are injured, wounded or seriously ill. Both ABCD and 4Bs are the two concepts that are closely related to the curriculum of all first aid training programs.

If we check the abbreviation of the term “ABCD”, it actually stands for airway, breathing, circulation and deadly bleeding or defibrillation. In the same manner, the concept of 4Bs stands for breathing, bleeding, brain, and bones.

In all sorts of first aid training programs, ABCD plays a special role as it ideally puts its focus on critical life-saving techniques and methods that non-expert but trained personnel use to offer pre-medical help to people with minor but serious injuries. ABCD mainly concentrates on the smooth and free breathing of patients so that they can to continue their life in medical emergencies. There are different manners of performing ABCD exercises by the first aiders who come to the rescue of injured or ill persons. Above all, it is the level of skills and knowledge of first aiders that matters the most in both the concepts.
